BT Balance

BT Balance was a BT research project with Adam Oliver and Martin Trimby, a tablet PC based device using movement and gesture to simplify access to broadband content for older people. I designed and developed the software for the BT Balance prototype, this was inspired by the work I had done previously on the Powerbook Puppet with Craig McCahill.

Working closely with the brand leadership team, BT Balance was featured in over fifty news stories including the BBC, WIRED and Technology Review. It was featured on the BBC Click programme:

BT Balance was a finalist at the IET Awards 2007 (Emerging Technologies) and the PC Pro Awards 2007 (Technology Innovator).

I ran a short study evaluating different mappings of the sensor to the movement of a map and published it at TEI:
